今年は夏の天候が猛暑でしたので、種蒔きを通常より
一週間遅らせて7月27日に行いました。
その影響もあってか開花時期も遅くなり8月下旬となりました。
ちょうどその頃には昆虫がわんさか飛び交っていました。
あれからわずか20日程度経った昨日、倒伏していないかを
確認するために畑へ行ってみましたら、なんと早くも
穂頂まで実が黒く膨らんでいました。
茎柄も黄色に変色してきていて、そろそろ刈り入れ時と
思われます。あと10日くらいで収穫しないと
コンバインでの歩留りが低くなります。

This summer was extremely hot, so we sowed the seeds
 a week later than usual, on July 27th.
Perhaps as a result, flowering was also delayed, to late August.
Around that time, there were a lot of insects flying around.
Just yesterday, about 20 days later,
 I went to the field to check if the plants had fallen over,
 and I was amazed to see that the kernels had already turned black
 and swollen all the way to the ear tips.
The stalks have also started to turn yellow, so it seems
 like it's time to harvest. 
If we don't harvest in about 10 days,
 the yield with the combine will be low.
